Welcome to my universe

From dystopian Mars colonies to far-flung generation ships, I am passionate about crafting stories that take you on adventures through the cosmos.

Writing is a hobby for me, but writing stories that no one ever reads seemed counterproductive. Existentially dreadful. So, I’m sharing my writing with you, through my books and in my blog (which I promise will only ever discuss science and science fiction topics!).

As a child, I used to read stories by Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan and Frank Herbert, and I would watch Star Wars or Star Trek, and I would then wander around and immerse myself in new stories set in those universes. Expanding the things I loved from those stories. Adding places for new characters, and new situations. Pushing those narrative boundaries out. I never really stopped, except that as I aged, I realized the stories I told myself didn’t need to be founded in someone else’s universe. I could create my own universes.

I’ve always been entranced by science, and I like telling stories that recognize the elegance of scientific approaches to the universe while not being strictly constrained by what science says is or is not “real”. I like playing around with concepts that we take for granted in science fiction. Technology can often feel miraculous, and doubly-so in the stories we tell ourselves about fictional technologies, and I like to explore what the consequences of those miracles may be. I want to focus on the grounded, human reaction to momentous experiences, the awe and the pain and the elation and the fear. For ultimately, the universe around us is only so much dead matter. It’s our reaction, our emotion, our memory, our experience that gives any of it meaning.
